They rejected the warranty claim because it was fraudulent.

The failure occurred before the extended warranty/insurance policy took effect.

Also, the guys at the service dept said that Allianz will reject a claim for any car that doesnt have the proper servicing history. He said he's seen this happen quite a few times for engine relatd issues.
Volkswagen will do the same under the factory warranty.

What is defined as proper service history?

(Of course having the car serviced on time.)

Does all work have to be done by VW?

Can the car be serviced by an independant VW mechanic and not void the warranty?

If the work has been performed outside the dealer network I'm sure that they will want to see some proof that the work was done like invoices/receipts and may scrutinise the quality of the work depending on what's failed (ie if the dealer said the engine is full of sludge).

Maintenance carried out as per VW service schedule using approved parts and that includes oils too.

    No.

Yes, and you will not void the warranty.

Easy to prove if you keep the invoices and honestly if everything was done as per schedule, they can scrutinies whatever they want.
and if you changed oil more frequently than their 1 year/15,000km interval there will be no sludge. Anything prematurely worn out or broken get repaired under warranty by your dealer, no worries.

read your warranty book - it's all there in plain English. "Work to be carried out by suitably qualified personnel using genuine parts" (something like that). Suitably qualified personnel can even stamp your warranty book.

I'm not sure why people concern themselves so much. I'm "suitably qualified personnel" but I find it simpler to just rock up to the dealer every 15,000km & get the job done. 45,000km worth of services has been <$1000 so far. I don't think $500 a year is a huge amount to pay to keep your car maintained.

All it needs is a stamp in the service book Mav.

Can't see the point myself - then you end up with a he-says/she says situation & the non-VW person trying to protect their professional liability insurance.

So would anyone care to explain why the independant VW mechanic that the previous owners used have stated in 6 months or at 15000km?
I am asking this as the last service was done at about 12 months old with 8900km. A 6000km service interval seems a bit short.

    Fraudulent Meaning and Definition

    1. (a.) Using fraud; trickly; deceitful; dishonest.
    2. (a.) Obtained or performed by artifice; as, fraudulent conquest.
    3. (a.) Characterized by,, founded on, or proceeding from, fraund; as, a fraudulent bargain.

Now lets make this crystal clear. There was no intention to be deceitful or dishonest when VW Essendon attempted to make a claim on my new policy. This is a ridiculous word for you to be using and I find it offensive. Please do not use this language again to describe my situation.

The intent of your response is correct, which I've now stated multiple times. Enough.

the service intervals are every 12months or 15,000km - whichever comes first. If the vehicle was serviced at 12 months old & only had ~9000km on it then the next service is due at the first of 2 years or 24,000km If the vehicle is subject to any of the "Severe Service" conditions then the service schedule can be modified at the mechanics discretion. It's all in the service/warranty book - it's a goldmine of information.

I have RTFM (found it very usefull and the plain english very easy to read).

The issue I have is if I get the car serviced at 24 months and something goes wrong at a later date, I don't want VW to say it was 6 months late, your screwed.

The only thing I can think of is the car was used for many short trips and the independant classified that as "Severe Conditions".
Will give them a ring and get an explanation on the short service interval.
