    CamdenGTI in Campbelltown does engine swaps all the time. I know it's an epic hike from Forestville but as a one-off it might be worthwhile.

    Closer to you is European Autotech at Mona Vale. An engine swap isn't a hard job - you just need the right tools.

    There are a few other reasonable VW specialists on the North side - have a browse through the recommended repairers section.

    It would be worthwhile having a chat to the repairer before buying the replacement engine as they might have a better solution.

    Thanks, Brad. Will do that. I occasionally buy BMW parts from Fry's German Auto Parts in Crows Nest, will ring the guys there and ask their opinion in the lower North Shore area.

    Just a bit panicked at the moment as the Jetta was/is my wife's commuter from Forestville to Lidcomb every day. Public transport is not an option in this case...
