I'm a fan of the pirelli. Great cars.
Have to question the use of ryco filters though. Only dramas I see at work are with them. The all come out looking collapsed.
Hi all!
After a some time away from here a few things have happened,
I have sold my previous vehicle due to unforseen circumstance and I have since purchased another vehicle better suited to my project goals.
So for this project we have a MK5 GTI Pirelli Edition.
Specs are as follows:
Year: MY2009
Colour: Reflex Silver
Transmission: DSG
KMS: 146660 (As of writing this)
Doors: 5
Sunroof: No
Car seems to have been basically specced as it does not have reverse sensors or SAT NAV.
Plans for this car are to maintain an OEM+ look while being fast but not over the top.
This will include:
APR Stage 2+ ECU Tune
APR DSG Tune
Autotech HPFP upgrade
Cold air intake (Brand is undecided)
Custom 3" Stainless Steel Turbo-Back Valved exhaust with a X-Force Varex Muffler (VMKK52-300)
Lowering Springs (Brand is undecided)
RNS-510 SAT NAV Radio
9w2 Bluetooth module
Coding for turn by turn Navigation on full size MFD
DSP (For ability to setup a 10 BAND EQ on the factory radio)
12" Subwoofer in custom enclosure
Supernova Projector style LED headlights (current ones are heavily faded)
Fixing Paint (A few scratches and stone chips)
Refurbing the Wheels (minor rashing)
Paint protection film and ceramic coating as well as detailing
Reupholstering handbrake leather
Refusbishing steering wheel (Parts are scuffed and need redying)
First steps happening with the car as with any project is a full service.
In the following weeks it shall have:
Oil service (Liqui Moly and RYCO)
DSG service (Liqui Moly and RYCO)
HPFP Cam Follower
Thermostat (Is cooling down to 75c when under hard driving)
Cabin filter
All constructive criticism is welcomed as well as ideas for things that are undecided such as the CAI.
More to come soon!

Will be sure to keep an eye out for this. But between this, my other GTI and my R32 using these I haven't had an issue. I usually service every 7500 - 10000kms.
Just my experiences, consider doing a carbon clean on it though for sure.
Carbon clean does sound like a good idea mate, thinking about doing it on my 185,000k Gti. Is it a big job?...
Nice score with the Pirelli - certainly not many around. Funnily enough I was looking at them on CarSales the other day because my car got written off a few days ago in flood water.
I must agree with some of the other comments above re Ryco filters. I wouldn't be using them when better quality OEM brands like Mann and Mahle etc are readily available and cheap.
Regardless, you are on the right track with doing all of the maintenance stuff before the mods. You might want to add spark plugs and new coil packs to your list of maintenance unless you know they were replaced recently. Usually a tune will highlight the weakness in the 10yr old coil packs when asking more from them.
@Lucas_R Bummer about the write off, I did see one Pirelli on carsales but the owner hasnt got contact info on the ad but it looks mint.
I ended up finding mine on Facebook Marketplace of all places XD
It's funny I always see Mann filters as cheaper than Ryco and didn't really know which was better. Just have used Ryco more I guess.
Anyone know of a good website for Mahle parts? Would defintely get them next time.
