I've got a mate looking to install a RVC in a Mk5.
He has bought this unit from Jaycar:
2.4GHz Wireless Reversing Camera with DVR - Jaycar Electronics
But has hit a wall when it comes to the camera itself and asked me for help. Long story short it uses two wires for the rear camera, ground and power and suggest tapping into the reversing light... problem is on the Golf that those wires are in the hatch so no near the numberplate where the camera mounts.
So a couple of questions:
1. Will that reverse light power provide enough current to run something like this?
(The plan will be to test it before committing to hard wiring anyway, but it's worth asking anyway)
2. Where does the reverse power wire run?
I've not looked at the car myself so am looking to save time on this one. He tells me there are "things" running into each side of the hatch, so which one has the reverse power wire? And where does it run? ie can I tap it somewhere easier to get at like in the boot space?
My last resort is to tap the reverse wire at the light itself then feed that single wire back through the rubber grommetty tube thing and down to the numberplate. Not elegant but it will work.
