Resonator delete, rear muffler delete or both?

Looking for a little bit more sound (DSG farts) on my Jetta TFSI without going full aftermarket.

I have heard a number of videos on YouTube with the resonator delete only and they mostly sound good. Probably no louder/different to the current trend of 4cyl turbo hot hatch/sedans sounding a little throaty from factory.

However, I've read previous threads on this forum and others where it sounds terrible and droney?

I've got a down pipe and muffler delete and i think its perfect, loud enough, doesn't drone as well good farts too.

When i was installing the down pipe i disconnected the whole cat back (so pretty much straight pipe) to test it and i didn't like it at all!
sounded waaaay too loud and like a tractor.

Doesn't quite answer your question, but FWIW I've got an aftermarket resonated cat-back on my (manual) Mk5 GTI and I think it's a great compromise; no drone, and it kinda sounds like a new Audi S3 under load imo. Not sure it'd give you the DSG noises you're after, but worth a look if you can find one for cheap?

I've got an aftermarket dump pipe and wanted more noise so did the resonator delete on my Mk5 Gti and it is pretty loud. DSG farts are loud, cold starts even louder and it can be a bit droney/ tiresome at times.

I guess everybody had a different opinion about what is too loud but it's an easy and cheap mod that is reversable. YouTube sound clips don't really give an accurate representation of how it will sound in real life as mine was much louder than any of the countless clips I had watched to be honest.

Maybe do one at a time as both I'm sure will be loud and possibly tractor sounding as another user has said.

I recommend starting with a muffler (suitcase delete) and then if thats not loud enough go with a resonator delete

I've decided to do it properly and import a Milltek catback!

Epic. I bought my Scorpion cat-back from BWA Auto in Sydney for a decent discount (awesome product, too) - could be worth giving them a call and seeing what they've got in stock? You've probably got a plan for where to buy it, but Demon-Tweeks is always a good bet for UK imports - my 2 cents!

Thanks for the heads up on Demon Tweeks. You just saved me a large chunk of money!

After listening to numerous sound clips of MK5 exhausts, I preferred the sound of the Milltek non-res the best. Going catback only as I don't plan to go beyond Stage 1 (it's only my runabout car!)

Glad to hear it! I've always had good service from them - hope shipping costs aren't too crazy. Enjoy
