Replacement car stereo advice?
Hi everyone
can you share some advise please?
So i've been thinking about a stereo upgrade. I have a stock stereo in my 2008 GT sport. i've had it for ever
About 6 years ago I added a Motorola tk30 to the stock stereo for bluetooth calls, music and ipod connectivity.
It's fine, but...it's all a little clunky..It'd be really cool if i could integrate the phone into the stereo...maps, tunes etc
currently I use iphones, but android might be in my future too.
Retaining steering wheel controls is a must, making / receiving calls is a must..
mirroring would be ok. playing media from other sources (usb.SD would be ok)
I'm not particularly game to DIY so will be getting someone else to do the install
I've been thinking of either:
RCD330+ (6RD 035 187E)
or
Pioneer DMH-Z5150BT
Anyone got any thoughts or opinions?
Anyone can recommend a good installer (or maybe supply and install)
Appreciate feedback...
Cheers
Tim

RCD330! Check out some of the threads on this section of the forum for more info. What you want is something like this - Online Shop CarPlay Android Auto RCD330 RCD340 Plus Noname Radio 187B C210 For VW Tiguan Golf 5 6 Jetta MK5 MK6 Passat CC Polo 6RD035187B | Aliexpress Mobile - with Carplay and Android Auto. (You can go cheaper, but I reckon it's worth the money to make sure it's future-proof.) If you've got a 2008 it should be plug and play; you won't get any noticeable improvement in sound quality, but I doubt you'd get that from a Pioneer unit without speaker and amp upgrades anyway. You'll also need to get a SWC adaptor, which you can usually get from the same seller you buy the head unit from.
These are also super easy to install - you need half an hour, a YouTube tutorial and $20 worth of trim removal tools

Thank you for the reply.
Yes, Noname 6RD 035 187E was the one I was thinking of, claims to be future proof! (ha!)
On the topic of SWC adapter, I was looking at these kits for aftermarket install but wasn't sure which, if any I needed?

I think the facia replacement woudn't be needed with the RDC330 plus, but sounds like I don;t need any of it with the 330 other than SWC?
Is that right?

I don't think either of those SWC adaptors will work - they might, but they're usually designed for aftermarket head units with a special SWC input (I think?) - I bought one of these and it works fine: Buy Products Online from China Wholesalers at Aliexpress.com . Plug one end into the car's stereo harness and the other end into the radio and you're good to go.
You won't need a fascia kit - the RCD330 is the same size/shape as the radio that's in your car now
