Determining whether it is worth the $'s or whether I should just enjoy/drive it until it dies as this is my daily runabout. Mechanically mine is quite solid and feels similar to MK5/6 GTIs that I drive many years ago with much lower kms.

You will shorten its life for sure. Depends how long you want/need to keep it going.
Also whether you’re going to get a good return from tipping $ into modifying a high km car. It’s not so easy to take the tune with you but easier to swap parts if you end up scrapping it at some point.

The GT Sport was a 1.4L Twin charger right? Probably not a bad call.
As for the GTI, I probably would. What's the worst that could happen

I've had a cheap $600 Bluefin remap on my EA888 1.8tsi since 30,000km. Car is now 10 years old and has 190,000km. I don't thrash the car (according to others I do) but I do use the added torque.
Anything that has broken has had nothing to do with the tune. It's probably the best thing I ever did to the car.
If you do tune the car, budget for spark plugs, coils, PCV assembly and a diverter valve.
Get something like a JB4 from Burger Motorsports and when the car dies you can remove it and sell it.

im in the exact same boat. Car has done around 210k kms and wanting to tune it, ive serviced it regulary & hasnt skipped a beat. my only worry was that the tune will put more stress on the engine and kill it quicker but then again if you get a Bluefin you could just pull the remap out and sell it right?
Do you thrash the car everywhere now? A mild tune won't kill the engine unless you suddenly start flogging the car & driving like a *****.
I've had my tune for ~160,000km and the clutch is starting to feel sad but the engine itself is great. I don't do many hard launches. It might see >5000rpm a handful of times every week. I do tend to use the increase in torque and use the powerband between 2k - 4k rpm.
Bluefin is only worth $100 unless you pay to reset it. JB4 is the most transportable / resellable solution as a generic tune.
