Thread: Red stripe on bonnet?

    Red stripe on bonnet?

Hi guys! The husband and I are picking up our 5dr BMP GTI in about 10 days and have been thinking about possibilities for some minor changes to the appearance of the little tiger.

I have been trying to find some pics that show an extension of the 'red smile' up in a thin stripe over the bonnet but have been unsuccessful. So I'm wondering if anyone here has seen pics of this anywhere and if you could point me in the right direction. I have seen full bonnet colour changes but no-one seems to be just doing the stripe.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Welcome!

G'day and welcome to our community! I assume your GTI is red? These cars look outstanding in factory form, however colour coding the placcy bits makes an amazing difference and I'd highly recommend it (see gtimk5's car ). I can't visualise the bonnet stripe. Have you a pic to show us an example? If not, can you Photoshop it?

    Hi brackie
Sorry - BMP = Black Magic Pearl - so basically I'm wondering what a continuation of the red stripe in the grill, to up and over the bonnet, will look like.

I must admit that red would have been sweet, however the husband couldn't wait so we took the first one that fit our specs (as long as it wasn't silver!). I have seen pics of the totally different coloured bonnets - i.e. black bonnet on red, black on white, black on silver etc - but no-one seems to have just done the simple red stripe. I don't have Photoshop or similar on my laptop, but I will have a go on the desktop and see if I can make it look a little like what I'm thinking.

OK, let's see if this works...

I fiddled around for a while to see what it might look like and came up with this:

(my apologies to the actual car owner out there somewhere - it was the image I found that had the angles I was looking for!)

The actual line (thickness, angle, colour etc) would obviously be different if done for real. So.. does it look goofy?

Sorry, but the answer is yes. I wouldn't do it.

And I have to agree - I wouldn't do it either.....

It just breaks up the lines too much.

Maybe just buy some pin striping and give it a go, if it doesn't look right easy to remove. No harm no foul. I've had thoughts of black bonnet up the centre as a continuation and has been done on quite a few cars and looks good. Post some pics if you give it a go.

R32 is here and sounds awesome, loving the throttle blips on the down changes.
