R32 Continuously Revs Higher at Idle?

Last year around September, I was told my 7 year old Varta battery was going. A sign was the fact the car revved higher at idle sometimes.....such as at the traffic lights.

I changed the battery to an equivalent Dek Intimidator and fixed the revving issue........until the last week.

It's starting to rev again at idle sometimes.

Has anyone had this issue before?

I've bought myself a battery analyser to see whether the new battery is starting to go faulty.....

    Hi Noisuf,

Yes.... same thing happening here.... MK5 Golf R32

I replaced my original Varta battery with another Varta (model F19)....

After around 12 months..... of using the new battery, if I pulled up to a set of lights, stopped for a minute or so, the idle would jump up to approx 1000rpm.... I'd then take off and come to another stop, normal idle.... then the idle would again jump up to approx 1000rpm.

My workshop diagnosed it as a possible battery fault.... it failed 1 of the tests...... battery is now 18 months old and still covered by a 2 year warranty.... I took it back to where I bought the battery and it passed all the tests etc.....

The issue is very intermittent..... it can go for a month no problems..... then in the space of a 30 minute drive, the higher idle speed issue can happen 6-10 times.... etc.

It's hard getting the battery swapped over under warranty as the issue is so intermittent, that it manages to behave when taking it back for a warranty swap over, because it passes the battery tests where I bought it from....

I'd be interested in how you get on..... I may just bite the bullet and buy another battery if I can't get it to fail at the battery stop.
