    P2015 Engine Error Code

    Hi everyone,

So whilst out running a few errands, the CEL came on and stayed on. I was only about 3km from home so I drove slowly and gently and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

When I got home, I turned the car off and restarted it and the light remained on. I pulled the code and got P2015. This related to the intake manifold/flap sensor. The Googling around that I have done seems to suggest that it can only be fixed with a replacement manifold. Having said that, a member in the Tiguan thread reckoned that they were able to lubricate the gears and it cured the problem.

If this is a terminal failure of the intake manifold, does anyone have an idea of how much it will cost? Also, can I drive the car to get it to my mechanic?

Considering, the manifold was taken apart about 6 months ago to be cleaned (to clear a misfire) and it passed it's 120k service in February with flying colours, I'm a bit annoyed.

Yes its ok to drive...you will not feel any difference. The manofold is usually replaced but I think there are companys that do a new manifold without the flap and a software change to basically get rid of it all together.

New manifold is apparently a revised part that is meant to overcome the problems they've had.

Ok. That's interesting to know. The funny thing is I noticed a noise that sounded like a flap trying to open and I thought it was the AC adjusting itself. I suspect it was the death rattle of the flap jamming!

Yeah i would be checking the rod on the side of the intake manifold if its still intact. Also a inner piece of where the rod hooks onto comes out and this would cause the problem.

Thanks guys. I'll be booking it in today to get looked at. It's almost due for new front pads and discs so I'll probably get them done at the same time.

Of course, as soon as I get off the phone booking the car in, the bloody light goes out!

I wonder if the flap is just jamming and a good lubrication might fix it?!?!

Once it has jammed once the rod/flap arm itself gets freeplay in it, so frequently it will throw a fault in regards to position out of range. Only thing you notice when these fail is abit of loss of low end power, unless the actuator arm has popped out then it will be misfiring and running like trash.

So the car went in on Tuesday and was actually easily fixed. The DV connector had fallen apart and needed replacing, plus some wiring needed a repair. They also said that it was related to the runner flaps (IIRC) used for controlling air flow at low speeds, rather than the main intake flap.

So all-in-all a relatively easy and quick fix.
