    Odometer is out of wack

(Neither sure if this is where to post nor if anyone can actually help)

So my 2008 tdi golf's odometer has jumped by almost 1000kms in four days.
Thursday morning it turned to 159000kms and this morning read 159889kms. I have only done about 60kms over the weekend and was wondering how this could be fixed?
Does anyone else have this problem?

    Thanks
    Chelsea

I'd keep an eye on it for a little while and see if it skips again.

There's no cheap fix, as the instrument cluster will most likely need to be replaced with a new exchange one from VW, which are about $1,000 plus labour and programming. You can't simply re-apply the correct odometer reading on these.

We had a cluster sent to some guru who was apparently the best in the country, yet couldn't set it to the exact reading it was meant to be. He could round it off to the nearest 100,000km though!

Why wouldn't he set it to 0, after that with vcds to desired reading.

Yeah it is, but it could be locked out, if needed tools are used.

Depending on your intention, it's also highly illegal in Australia

It's illegal i guess every where else to, but you don't see the stopping of manufacturing of these tools.

What i wanted to say is, that if there is a guy who is able to do this kind of stuff, it is cheaper, than going to vw for cluster swap.
