    Odd Belt Sound

Hey there, one of the things i've encountered in my 2005 MKV GTI 6 speed, is when i take off at lower rpm's there is a really loud belt screech or squeal. However, when i take off with a little more gas the belt squeal doesn't occur?

I was thinking at first it was the clutch (me being the idiot i am) but i definitely think that it's one of the belts playing up.

Anyone have any ideas? It's killing me right now.

    Thanks

One possibility is the sprag clutch on the alternator pulley is worn out.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Thanks mate, will get a VW Mechanic to check it out. Hopefully it won't be too pricey!

    Absolutely.

They do get a bit noisey before they eventually fail.

I purchased a Gates pulley from an Aust. supplier for around $62. The kit is very cheap you linked to. I had the XZN tool & purchased the spline tool out of China for around $10.
