I had mine stop working only to find you have to close the hatch firmly if you don't the switch does not connect.
Hi all,
Rear wiper stopped working a few months ago, and it had my mechanic and his sparky stumped. He said it had power and /or he could power it to work, but he couldn't get the wiper switch to operate it. I searched the net and found that some owners had dead motors (doubtful in this case), but others had a broken wire in the loom at the tailgate hinge. I told my mechanic this, and he said that couldn't be the cause because he was getting power to the wiper motor.
I took it to Volkspower last week and, sure enough, they found a broken wire at the hinge.
I suspect it could be the wire that informs the BCM that the tailgate is open or closed, and the circuit break meant that the BCM thought the tailgate was open.

I've seen a few with broken wires where the harness passes from the tailgate to the upper jamb, much like what you've encountered.
Other issues include the MFD dispaying that the tailgate is adjar, when it isn't, the badge/release not working.
If the hatch is ajar, the tail lights on the tailgate won't work, either.
