MK6 7sp DSG Shifter into MK5! Fingers crossed

So I bought a GTI DSG knob last weekend and did the old heat the plastic shift shaft trick
and after I fitted the knob and released the button the shaft snapped.
Heated it to quick I think and made it brittle.
No harm done as I work in the industry and knew I could get a replacement shifter.
So after getting to work on Monday and searching my network for one I came a complete MK6 7 speed shifter mechanism.
The MK6 7speed shifter is totally different design to the MK5 All /MK6 GTI shifting mechs.
Just going out to fit and see if it fits and works.
    Fingers crossed.

    So far so good.
I had to change the cable adjuster on the end of the cable as it is different setup how it attaches to the MK5 gearbox.
Now to finish putting the exhaust back on and test it.

On a side note, I pulled the exhaust apart at the slip joint and started it with no mufflers and i'm amazed surprised how quite it is.

    Success.
So if you break your shifter shaft you can fit a MK6 7 speed shifter that has a front pull knob set up.

Now the hardest part, re fitting the trim.

    Good work !!!

Do you know if it's possible to fit a GTI/DSG style shifter knob to a non-DSG tranny (tiptronic 09G)?, I have the T bar style shifter.

I'd love to fit a better looking shifter to finish the sports look off.

    Input is much appreciated.

I was hoping to avoid the "heat gun" treatment, as you've found out first hand.

Is there an alternative to heating and twisting? As in can I buy a different shifter mechanism to bolt on?

Looking at the tiptronic shifter mechanism in this link > VWVortex.com - DSG / Tiptronic Shifter conversion – DIY
They look identical to the DSG Mechanism.
So doing what I did may be an option.

Just did a quick search of the original DSG shifter mechanism part # from my car and it fitted to cars with tiptronic transmissions also.
So going off of that, you should be able to do what I have done.

So what was the price of needed parts, you also mentioned modifying a cable adjuster.
