Thread: Mk5 problem: A/C only working on max

Question Mk5 problem: A/C only working on max

    Hey all,

All of a sudden my A/C isn't working properly. If I set the windflow on 1,2 or 3 nothing happens - one can hardly notice air coming through the vents. Only when I put the windflow on 4 air blasts out. Issue doesn't seem to be related with the actual cooling unit (ie. air is coming out cold), but something with the air circulation "motor"?

Can someone point me in the right direction? Would appreciate some troubleshooting help as I've no clue what to look/google for. If it's not to difficult I could fix it myself.

    Cheers,
    Rigo

    Hey Rigo

Your first stop is finding someone with a VAGCOM/VCDS cable to see what error codes you have. I've got one if you want to travel with a beer donation

Thanks for your reply Benough. Will sent you a PM to see whether we can catch up - but we might be a bit too far away from each other.
Anyway, I thought it might be more of a mechanical problem, but looks like computer just knows everything. Or so I hope.

    Thanks for the link KFiddy!
After reading a bit more on blower motor resistor it looks like this is exactly what my problem is.
Now the only thing missing would be some form of instruction on how to reach the resistor.
Anyone has a link? Googled the internet but just can't find details/instructions/manual.

    Cheers

theres a link in that post - second to last thread with a couple of photos - just had a look in my car and, passenger side below glovebox, undo two small plastic lock clips remove foamy panel and look for white connector with 4 thick wires- release and pull down - you are now looking at resistor pack!

Awesome thanks again for your help!

Saw the technical drawing and the link, but must have scrolled past the one with the pictures. Looks pretty straight forward.

Thanks so much! Will give it a go...
