Mechatronic unit won't cause it to stall in my experience.
I'd be leaning towards the crankshaft position sensor.
Hi Guys,
I have searched and found a few threads on engine issues for the mk5. My mk5 147tsi Jetta has randomly died whilst driving. I brought the car 4 months ago with 84ks. I've had the timming belt, water pump and dsg service done as none of them had been done in the life of the car. Just prior to getting the dsg serviced the car randomly died. I lost drive and the car would crank but wouldn't start for 10 to 15min. I had the dsg service and car checked only codes where to do with the fuel sender unit. Had that replaced and faults cleared. Car drove ok until friday, where it randomly died mid intersection. engine shut off but I had no warning lights on the dash. Car would crank but wouldn't start. waiting the 10 to 15min and it started. Then on Saturday the same thing happened again. I have checked and cleaned the MAF. Also checked and cleaned the throttle electrical connections. I am taking the car to a friend this week to check for codes. I spoke to my mechanic at VW and he has confirmed my Jetta has the serial number from the problem batch of mechatronic units, though the car hasn't thrown any codes for the unit.
Is there anything else that I can check, It is a nerve racking experience when your car loses drive in the middle of the intersection..
Cheers
Brett

The VCDS scan will likely point you in the right direction. I may be a simple as a cam position/hall sensor.
MK4 GTI - Sold
MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.
Cheer guys just sorting out doing a VCDS scan, will post up what it comes back with.

Hi guys,
Carried out the scan on my Jetta at my local VW dealership, only fault that came up was low pressure fuel system out of limits (intermittent). He checked my car and it has had the updated low pressure fuel sensor installed, while he had the car at the work shop, he tested the fuel system and checked parameters, it was within limits. We also check the plug for the fuel sensor for any issues, with nothing looking out of place.
I am going to replace the fuel filter first and see how the car goes from there. Will pull the old filter apart to see it was blocked. If the issue happens after the filter replacement we are going to drive around with a manual pressure gauge and/or laptop connected to see if the fault appears and be able to narrow down what is the issue.
Will post results as they come.
