MK5 GTi Head Unit Upgrade - Stereo - Factory Underseat Amplifier

    New owner here...
Car is a 2007 gti Mk5.. and is totally stock.
Looking to upgrade the head unit..

Car has an amp under the pass seat ; is this std?

I bought an ebay head unit but it only worked on the left channels.. and was very crackly. Put the stock unit back in, and all speakers work as per normal.

Did I buy the wrong unit? Do they need some sort of coding to make them work?

Any advice appreciated as I thought it was meant to be plug and play.

    Located in Brisbane..
This is the unit I ordered...

Hi and welcome to the forum. For $100 im not suprised that it doesn't work very well. I would return it (if possible) and get your money back and keep saving for a better quality unit.

Although there are some cheaper options around the $400 mark, the tried and tested option is the genuine VW RCD330 unit which was fitted to cars in some of the Asian countries. There are hundreds if not thousands of these units fitted to Mk5 and Mk6 Golfs in Australia.

You will need to tick the option for the steering wheel adapter harness and the canbus gateway upgrade, taking the price to $843.00

Note this unit has WIRED Carplay/Android auto. If you use an iPhone and want wireless Carplay then the wireless adapter works fantastically well and is much neater and more convenient than having to connect the cable all the time.

I have an Eonon VWA12S-E-WF099 9" head unit if you're interested. It was in my GTI but an early release with poor firmware. Eonon sent me a new unit which did everything the same, all the faults still there.

Then they fixed the firmware and it is now operating perfectly. $200 +post to Brisbane.

Let me know and I can send photos.

    hi Gerhard
potentially interested.. dont know much about that unit..
Is it def plug and play for my mk5 gti?

I have steering wheel controls so would be good if they still worked..
are you able to post pics of the unit (and rear plugs) or maybe send them direct to me?

    cheers

It took a few back and forths, but yeah they eventually refunded me the price and didnt even want it sent back...
Forgot to mention, when I first intstalled it, the fuse blew... a good sign that yeah it's pretty trashed inside.
