I recently fitted a CTS exhaust to my MK6 GTI. It cost $1k from local supplier DubAddiction. Its reasonably quiet like i wanted (it has a large resonator and then the big muffler at the back). Has a little bit of drone at around 3,200-3,500rpm if you hold the RPM in that band.
I mated the new CTS catback up to my existing EuroJet dump pipe, and the catback was rubbing on the underbody when it got hot. Got my local exhaust shop to adjust the fitment in which he cut off some of the hanger brackets and re-welded them in better spots and also cut and re-welded the pipe in 2 spots to get the fitment better and move the exhaust away from the underbody. Cost $170 for the mods but now it fits better and doesnt rub anymore. The exhaust shop also removed the joiner section where the exhaust reduces down to 2.5" and replaced this with some 3" stainless pipe, so the exhaust is a true 3" system now.
If you want a quiet exhaust with little/no drone, make sure you get a resonated (commonly referred to as a "Street system") exhaust. The reosnated systems cost a few hundred dollars more than the non-resonated ones.
