MK5 Golf, dif seems to be locked, cant move the car.

    Hi

To start i have a 2004 VW Golf, 2.0L FSI 6 speed Manual. From QLD

All of a sudden without warning, the golf wouldn't move forward when in gear, the car at this point was immobile.
(doesn't matter if i put it in gear and try to accelerate it wont move forward, but you can feel it try to move a little)
i pulled the handbrake and asked for someone to push me off the road, only to find out that it wont move forward or backward in neutral with the handbrake off. The only way i can explain it is; its like being in *park* in a automatic car
there is about a meter movement where you can roll the car back and forth. but it wont go past those points.

(it had to be skull dragged onto and off the toe truck)

on top of that a lot of oil has drained out (looked like it came from the flange where the gearbox meets the engine)
but there is still a bit of oil in the engine (checked with dip stick)

im thinking maybe the gear box has some kind of fault. or the diff itself is stopping the movement.

any idea of what could be causing this?

    many thanks

Google diff bolts and 02S faults

    Not looking too bright though.

Yep, time for another gearbox. Sounds a lot like the diff has blown.
