Golf V 2.0TDi Sportline with Black Leather

Love this car for many reasons
    1. Fuel economy despite heavy footed driving
    2. Amazing performance and bonus smoke-screen if you need it to bamboozle the young dude in the jap-crap turbo that thinks he can whip your *rse
    3. Leather sport seats in the sportline - perfect combo of comfort and support for 24h plus drives
    4. Heated seats - even in 'cold' Qld winter mornings, keep air cool but body warm
    5. Torque!!! combined with DSG - the purrfect combination - eats hills for breakfast
    6. understated design - no attention drawn until you need to
    7. Continues to get better every day - 45,000kms now and still improving - when will it end??
    8. Will turn into a TDi Eos in a few months - what more could you want!
    9. If I get bored, I'll just spend a couple of grand and chip it for even more torquey love!! Twisted!

Our 2001 Mk4 GTI didn't have any of these things, nor could they be optioned at the time...

    1. powerful engine that loves to be "driven"
    2. dual zone climate control
    3. trip computer
    4. ESP
    5. GTI specific interior/exterior
    6. leather seats
    7. good-excellent handling from factory

Our Mk5 GTI has all these things, the only thing it doesn't have is 5 doors.

    Thumbs up

I love the performance. My last golf was a 1.6 Mk 4 GL.
To jump out of my old Mk1 competition car(Gunter) and drive the Mk5 GTi I reckon that it runs rings around Gunter in power and definately handling. Throw some shocks and springs and tyres on it and you would have a rapid car. Oh, and a diff!
The finish on it is excellent and the panel fit is faultless. No, nothing I dont love about it,

FYI the outer door skins can be replaced in the event of dent accidents without the cost of replacing of an entire door

Hope you haven't had to do that...

    (puts his hand up)

... yup, that's me - twice, amongst other incidents...

My local body shop loves working on the MkV, seeing as they have had so much practice on mine

    So:

    1. I love the way the little beastie can be repaired so easily (due to a run af bad luck which is over - hopefully)
    2. Our particular baby seat/capsule fits easily into the back seat (unlike a mate of mine who had to sell his SP23 - should have taken my advice and bought the MkV in the first place, silly bugger)
    3. When I load up the roof pod (80kg capacity), it hardly effects the performance and handling - especially on the Brown Mountain
    4. Most of all, the MkV 2TDi is a 'sleeper' - a wolf in sheeps clothing (hehehe...)

    Where does one start;

Gretel (for that is her name) is a TR MK5 GTI.

Compared to her previous iterations (00 MK4 1.6 and 03 Mk4 2.0)... well there is no comparison.

As nice as those two wee beasties were, and they were very, very nice, Gretel is an absolute bombshell.

She is SA built, so was my previous 2.0, but she is a whole world of difference in build quality.

Yes, she has her build foibles, but so did the Wolfsburg 1.6

She is a delight to drive and returns a very decent fuel economy without an aweful lot of effort on my part

    Looks, to die for.

    Engine, sheer delight.

    Steering, Superb.

    tracks like a slot car.

Interior, a delight to sit in.

I can tell you now that Gretel will be the first car that I've owned that I will have trouble parting with.... Never thought I'd say that about a car.
