    95 octane

The car's engine timing adjusts automatically to cope with the lower octane, so 95 is entirely OK (eg the 'normal' Caltex Vortex). Haven't needed to resort to '91' yet...

what I like about the TSI...

I really like the way the engine 'growls' between 1500rpm and 3000rpm... and the torque is very impressive (much more effective pulling power than the v6 Camry and v6 Mazda 626).

Fuel comsumption is better than any car I've owned (including Corolla, 121). Logical given it's the smallest engine I've had, but illogical given the acceleration etc... definately the future for petrol transport!

We use it as a family car, so the slightly softer ride (viz GTI) is great.

Only whinge? Have to remove the 'driver' from the golf bag before the bag will 'fit' in the boot - the club can still go into the boot, but needs to sit alongside the bag... just too long!

I've been driving my 08 GTI DSG since May, and the one thing that still brings a smile to my face is the 'pop' (more like "BVVT") sound the exhaust makes when you change up in the sweet spot of the torque band. I could listen to that sound all day. The windows are down no matter how cold it is outside.

    That is all.

08 TDi Pacific - LOVE the noise it makes. Love riding the wave of torque. Love having to put the speed warning UP!

Oh and love this, even with a lead foot!

I love the braking performance and emergency systems... had a close call on the freeway coming home. I was behind an Excel which all of a sudden hit the brakes (complete with screaching and smoke), I stopped less than a metre from its back bumper. Not quite sure what happened, think something came off a trailer a few cars ahead.

I also love the fuel consumption as seen above, the highest average fuel consumption on my TDI was 7.4L/100km and that was with lead foot (using the entire rev range) suburban driving. Throw in some freeway and you can get 6.3L/100km while still making good use of the accelerator pedal and Sports mode.

This may sound trivial but i really like the way my armrest for the centre console can be extended forward and increased in height in increments.

I think this sums up the overall design philosophy of VW.

That's 460kms of pure happiness and enjoyment though...lol

With the TDI, even giving it some here and there around town I still manage no worse than about 6.3L per 100km!

I've had it down to 5.2L on a small trip.
Love the economy, and the power

    2006 GTI DSG

I love turbos, the woosh is cool.

But I bought this car for the wife (but I do drive it sometimes). DSG is the reason. Most sports cars are manual only. At least this car has the best of both worlds, and paddle shift!

The GTI 's fuel economy is way better than my subaru turbo forester - it's a 2.5L.
