    MK V TDI Electrical issues.

    My golf has gremlins.
The door ajar light on the dash board stays on but the doors are shut.
The driver's side mirror won't move and the mirror's indicator doesn't work.
The controls on the driver's side armrest don't illuminate at night.
The fuel flap button doesn't work either.

Any ideas what's going on? The fuses seem to be ok.

    Thanks in advance

Broken wires in the door wiring harness, where it passes from the car body into the door itself.

Very common problem. Not worth repairing the wires, just replace the harness, as the new one will have improved insulation on the wires.

    Agreed,

While not overly common has happened enough to be first place of inspection. If you can see more than just the one wire damaged (earth) then definitely price up a harness as you could be chasing broken wire after wire

Trouble is, any repair you make there is just going to fail again anyway.

My mk5 Jetta is having similar symptoms to yours. Door adjar warning even though doors are closed, interior lights randomly coming on while the car is locked up, sound dropping out from drivers door every now and then when door is opened, MFD resetting all values like its lost power and the door adjar warning even came on driving the other morning.

Like the others have said my VW specialist will be starting with the wiring harness from pillar to door first and going from there. Car goes in next week to get fixed.

Ahh what's another $250 amongst friends when I've just had a new clutch put in because it shat itself. The mechanic said we may as well do the timing belt and water pump at the same time.
    $2600 later.
    Clutch is nice though.

Are they easy to install. Could it be done by a dufus like me who's not an electrician or mechanic? and can you buy them aftermarket?
