    K04 Upgrade

    Hi fellow dubbers,
I tried to search but can't get a definitive answer.
The question is pretty simple, how much would a k04 upgrade cost me (thereabouts) for parts and install and how many days off the road are we looking at?
06 MKV GTI is the car in question.
If you've done the conversion before, send me a PM with approximate costs and whether you'd recommend the upgrade for a daily.
    Melbourne based.
    Cheers guys.

You can do it in a day no dramas.

Obviously, labour depends on how quick they are.
Parts, the stuff I fitted was a full K04 and pipework removed from a Scirocco R, so no parts missing. Injectors included.
You need new gaskets etc as well. I think we had a turbo install kit from ECS.
Then you need a tune for it.
I doubt you would see any change from $3500, possibly more.
As for daily driving, have you seen how many Golf Rs there are.

Also, you should consider the clutch if manual or maybe a DSG flash if not.

    What are you brakes like?

    Better intercooler?

If you have a completely stock car then you will probably need to budget 5 - 6k + install if you require all of the supporting mods.

If you are already stage 2+ then you can do it for a few k. Be careful buying a second hand turbo without the DV reroute parts. They are quite expensive brand new.

Installation time is always a difficult one. Technically yes you can slap it on in a day but an 06 GTI really should have a bit more attention. Each car will be a bit different but things such as carbon cleaning or sludge build up on cars over 100k are worth sorting out.
It also depends on if the tune will be adapted to suit your car specifically or an off the shelf file will be loaded.

The K04 pushes the car quite hard so you want a good job. Not a cheap/fast one. Cutting corners will only serve to cost you more money in the not too distant future.

Cheers guys, haha I should have just gone straight to you Tim, you have all the answers.
Ahh okay, that makes a bit more sense. I have most of the major supporting mods already and currently running a giac 2.5 tune.
Just on the fence as to whether to leave it here, or take that extra step ...
So $3000 - $4000 with labor would be the going rate I assume.
    Time to ponder.

I was in the same position loving my APR stage 2, but I'm the type that doesn't want to die wondering, so went APR KO4 and definitely glad I did. With APR's v3.1 software it's the ultimate all rounder; grocery getter half the time then oh so much fun when you squeeze the loud pedal & gets low 7's/100km fuel economy on the highway. Highly recommended if $ permit

Haha GoddyB why you do dis? Such a hard choice. I just upgraded the suspension and added an anti-lift kit, but my brakes are stock. k04 would be fun but worth 4k? Decisions decisions.

My 2 cents about a K04 upgrade and justify the cost of doing that is to compare the performance of the car with other performance cars as a whole. Stage 2 GTI is like a average size fish in the pond compared other performance cars. Now with a K04 put you in a different class and gain ability to go head to head with big fishes.

Also if you looking fora K04 with a custom tune why not also look at other turbo options like GTX28 series!

Ha ha that's funny kozij, coz I did complete opposite, KO4 first but no suspension upgrade yet and can't decide which setup. But it all has to wait as I don't have a money tree, slowly but surely my friend
