Help - repeated failing tail / stop light bulb

Hi Folks,


Have an interesting (frustrating) problem with my Mk V GTI - in the past 9 months of ownership I've had to replace the right side (rear) brake light bulb 3 times - most recently last night.
I am now suspecting that there is an issue here with the bulb assembly or wiring, or something odd going on.


I've used a Narva brand bulb for the past 2 replacements (Stop/Tail & Indicator - Products - Narva - P21W) - are these suitable? Or is this the cause of my problems?


I find it odd that the LHS has been fine, and that the inner park-light bulb on the RHS has been fine too.


Has anyone else had similar issues? Is there something specific I should be looking for?


Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I'm sick of changing light bulbs (that said, I can do it in <10min now!)

Check that it's making good contact with the terminals.

If it's constantly arcing out, it'll blow.

Always seems to happen on golf 5 especially the early ones.

Thanks... Indeed I saw another with the same light not working on my way home a few days ago.

Any other suggestions on what to investigate?

Replacement still working fine...
