Unhappy Help Please with Rear Engine Mount

    Help
Just had a quote for the rear (lower?) engine mount on my Golf Mk5 07 2.0 TDI

The engine would shudder briefly when starting so I asked my mechanic for a diagnosis
= a tear in the lower rear mount causing shudder and leaking oil .. replace before next service

Quote was going to be $530 for an after market mount fitted
I gave okay .. but after his attempts with 2 different after market mounts failed .. they didn't fit (too small)

He re-quoted on OEM VW part $1,674 fitted
Is this a real deal? and why didn't the after market mount fit?

    Which mount?

    mounting parts for engine and
transmission Golf/Variant/4Motion (GOLF) 2007 year Volkswagen EUROPA 199030

Front lower is item 3 & 2. The subframe needs to come out but it isn't a $1600 job.

I assume your mechanic doesn't do VW very much?

    Thanks for the reply

which mount is a good question

I got back in contact with the mechanic .. he's swapped back to the rear mount again + reckons the oil leak is from unknown source
I think he could be an unknown source of information

Can you or anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Penrith NSW region

Seems this mechanic I used doesn't know his engine mounts too well

So going elsewhere for 2 separate diagnostic reports from VW specialists (not dealers) I also want to find that oil leak and have it fixed

One quoted over phone about $400 fitted for either upper or lower mount, a bit more for oem & a bit less for after market
Saw a video on youtube of one being fitted, if I wasn't so old and out of nick ...

I'd try Volksmuller (Dural / Annangrove) or BWA Seven Hills They both would have done dozens of the mounts.

    Further Info on this

The fuel pump gasket leaking diesel is supposedly a common occurrence which then goes onto the rear engine mounts causing them to deteriorate
Haven't needed to top up any oil .. but diesel on rubber could look like oil ?
