Question GTI - Loose Air Intake

Anyone else have this same issue?
Loose air intake on the GTI which falls out of place and rests one one of the hoses?
Lost the air intake cover as well :/
First image is what it should be, then after a few mins of driving it drops out of place

I did have the same issue (was like that when I got the car), I managed to very skillfully snap it into place and its stayed put ever since. Have another look and see if you can fasten it place as it might not be attaching correctly hence why its coming loose all the time. I can't recall if the little bracket ears went over the outside edges of the box...

But as your missing it what is your plan find another from the wreckers or buy from VW?

I pick up the cover for $18 at VW sutherland. it was a common problem from recollection. no matter how hard i tried ( even tried superglue ) it kept falling off.

They do clip to the outside though using outwards pressure to stay in place.

    Cheers

Yeh might need to bend the clips and see if that makes any difference, have tried about 5 times but not luck, just keeps popping out
If that fails, might need to resort to drilling into the air intake and use cable ties :/

apparently this is a very common, I lost my top cover 2. it has to do with engine movement. Upgrade your engine mounts and you shouldn't lose bits anymore or upgrade your air intake

Or, grab a soldering iron and melt some cable ties to increase the size of the ridges of the locking tabs. Will look less ghetto? Might more work than you're willing to commit to I guess......the only good thing is you stuff it up and make it worse at least you still have a pack of zip ties to fall back to the first plan.

Used a dremel to punch a small hole in the bottom plastic then got some cable ties through
$20.90 for the replacement top cover from VW
    All good now

Dealership said that it's not a common problem...

How many times have the dealers said that. I've heard of it before, and of it ending up in the fans before too. Zip ties ftw.

Whilst your at it cut the sides of the divertor flap and bend it down so you get more cold air in.
