In case anybody else has this - Looks like the Turbo has gone... Goes into runaway for 3 secs when I push the accelerator, and blows out smoke..
ok - so a funny thing happened on the on-ramp to the Sydney M4.
I accelerate My Mk5 GT Sport (125kw with DPF) down the on-ramp (~100kph), and changed gears 4th to 5th, and all of a sudden the car just rev's its guts out for 3 seconds and then loads of smoke comes out from under the front of the car !
When the car revved, there was no extra power to the drive-train (I assumed clutch slipped - hence smoke..)
Scared the crap out of me. I released the clutch slowly (in 5th) and accelerated a little again, and it did the same thing again, red-lined for 3 seconds, and more smoke.
I stopped on the hard shoulder got out in the rain and got it NRMA'd home.
- The tow truck driver was able to drive it onto the truck fine, so I assume engine and gearbox are fine
- A VAG scan showed NO error codes,
- I was also just told by a mechanic that the gearbox is fine.
- it happened a 3rd time after drop off to a mechanic, he reversed the car into a spot, then when revved the car, it did the 3 second red-line again. Seems fine on idle.
I have googled a fair bit and gone between injectors (probably not) and clutch (told its fine) and am more than confused. I even watch a whole clutch replacement video from a solo operator in the UK, because it was so well done !
Any ideas ? I am a little nervous to drive it..
Thanks

OK - final verdict. 8 liters of oil in a 4.2 liter engine sump will do exactly what I experienced.
Its almost impossible to work out how 3.8 litres of diesel got into my oil but it did. Car runs great after an oil change lol.
Wow - keep an eye on that incase you have a sticking injector or something else that is causing excess diesel to make it down to the sump. Id be doing very regular dipstick checks on the engine oil.
What you experienced on the freeway recently may have been a mild case of 'diesel runaway'.
