Golf 2.0 FSI engine starting problems

And another update. I've not progressed further with the diagnosis as yet (the occurrences have actually dropped right down since it was in at the workshop recently), but I did manage to get a decent video of the fault in action:

The above is 3 attempts to start the car; it only starts on the third turn of the key. The secondary clicks are as I release the key after a second or so of holding it in the 'start' position.

Hopefully the video shows how loud the clicks are; at least as loud as a snap of the fingers. I haven't been able to work out the source of the sound as yet, as the bonnet's been down, or I've been leaning over to turn the ignition key when the fault has manifested itself.
