    god forsaken rattle! engine mount????

So have been hearing a rattle in the left front of my gti since I got it. Thought it was suspension related but was happening even with standard suspension in and seems to be worse with the coil overs back in. But this is probably just because the coil overs are a little stiffer and vibrate the car abit more. Have checked all the suspension bolts had the cv was checked when I had the boot replaced.
Also thought it was the forge twin air intake but have moved this around and checked it and seems not to rattle hit anything.
I have replaced the small bushing on the dogbone link as was completely broken and thought this would've been the noise but no!
So have now narrowed it down to the engine mount, has anyone replaced engine mounts because they had worn out?
What's the expected life span of the mount?
Obviously this will differ if engine torque is increased.
Will have to take battery tray out to have a look tomorrow.

Have had the car on the hoist and was hitting the tyre as hard as I could with a dead blow hammer and it didn't make the same noise so didn't think it would've been that. But since it only happens if the left tyre hits a bump I'll try and brake over bumps I know it makes the rattle over and see what happens.
    Cheers

Checked engine mount today and its a bit worn but no metal on metal and no rattle or noise when moving the engine.
So looks like I'll have to pull the caliper off and have a look.

If it sounds like a rattle in one of the struts, kind of like a strut top bearing sound, and happens whenever that side goes over bumps etc, then it might be what was causing mine - sway bar to sub-frame bolts. 2x 13mm hex heads accessible from underneath. Mine weren't super-loose, and I still am not sure how they would have allowed "chatter", but after tightening those up the sound is gone. It can't hurt giving that a try.
