Fastest/quietest/newest isn't always the most fun. At 100 ks in the MK2 you know you're doing 100 k. You have to pick and plan where you're going to overtake and make sure you're in the right gear at the right time. In the later Golf doing 100 ks and you're thinking why am I going so slow (MK1 driver is saying woohoo, I got up to 100 ks ).
Every time I got out of my MK2 after a long drive I had a big smile on my face.
