Hi, sorry to hijack but I've got an 06 passat that I assume has the same gearbox. What do I need to do to service it to try and avoid this problem. It's done 130k. Is the fluid genuine only? And is there a filter in the pan?
    Thanks

Yeah, it'll be a DSG. Service interval is every 60K.

Genuine oil price is about $55/l and you'll need 5 of those, plus the filter at around $40, and the filling tools.

The filter is on top, in a plastic housing.

I think it's just a standard auto. When did the 2.0 fsi go to dsg?

Maybe I'm confusing things because I'm posting about a passat in a golf thread.

If my advice is not applicable, then the conventional auto is a bit dearer to service.

It does have a filter in the pan, and needs 4L of oil at $80/l (from memory). You'll still need the correct filling tool, but not the same one as the DSG.

    Thanks.
Any idea where I can buy the filling tools from? I assume the fluid is genuine only.

There are cheaper alternatives that are approved, but are tricky to get hold of if you're not a trade customer.

I bought my filling tools online, from eBay.

Penrite list a full synthetic fluid for the tiptronic 6 speed. Has anyone used it?
