Gear Selector (PRNDS) Lights Gone Dull

Noticed a strange issue with the PRNDS lights on the shifter, the backlighting has become much duller than usual to the point where it's almost not noticeable. Only noticed it after swapping the stock Mk5 R32 shifter to a Mk6 Scirocco R shifter.

Scanned the car and there's no error codes and have also plugged the old shifter back in and it has the same issue but I SWEAR it was normal brightness before I removed it. I've also compared it to my other Mk5 and the lights are as bright as I remember them.

See pictures for how dull the lights are.

When you say you changed the shifter - do you mean the lever and the whole surround including the trim piece that has the +_ and gear selection indicators?

If you only changed the shifter handle it sounds like you may just have knocked the little electronics board underneath the selector indicators out of alignment so that the LED isn't shining through properly?

If you swapped the whole thing then I've got nothing...either the board is getting 12v or it isn't...should be all or nuttin

Yep swapped whole shifter and surround, the lot. I'll try wiggling it around tomorrow to see if it is just out of alignment. Might try swapping the parts between cars as well to see if it makes any difference

Narrowed it down to the wiring in my car, plugged the light board into another Golf and it's bright as normal.
