    Exhaust Tip on MKV TDI

    Quick Question !

I've got an MKV TDI, which features that plastic rear lower bumper, with no exhaust cut-out.

Here's what I'm talking about (Old Photo)

Sorry, not sure how to rotate, but yeah. I was thinking of replacing that with a lower bumper that does have the cutout on the left side, such as the ones from the GTI.

I've been told this is a simple swap in and out, no mods necessary, which is great. Except, being a TDI, i've got the downward facing exhausts, and I want to know what are my options to add an exhaust tip, so that it sticks out the cutout from the picture above.

    Thanks all

note: this is more of a cosmetic upgrade and less performance.

An exhaust shop will be able to modify your exhaust so that the tip(s) come straight out the back rather than facing down.

I have 2x tips off my Golf R that are in perfect (good as new) condition if you want them? Just pay for postage and they are yours.

Oh mate, that sounds perfect, ill pm you now.

Edit: ive read around that straight pipe will cause extra smoke to come out? Is this much of a concern?

A straight exhaust on a Tdi can lead to smoke residue building up on the car where it leaves the pipe.

You will notice this more with a lighter coloured car. Ive noticed the problem on vans that have this or similar mods.

This is what the TDI Exhaust looks like, is it actually possible to get exhaust tips welded on ? (by professionals of course)

When I fitted the mk5 gti lower bumper to mine I put a mk6 TDI tailpipe on it as it bolts straight on and doesn't have a resonator.
My standard exhaust had a resonator where yours doesn't.

    My standard tailpipe

Mk6 tailpipe fitted (haven't got tips yet) and car need a wash.

And as Horace said but even with a muffler the rear of the car gets covered in soot.

Where does one locate the lower bumper/valence for the MK5 as I was thinking of doing this mod too?

Your VW dealer, if I recall correctly they aren't very expensive brand new.
