    Newie - Buying Questions

    Hi All,

    Awesome site guys.

I am in the market for a Mk5 GTI, prob a 07 or 08 manual in red, black or white (silver if the numbers were tidy)

Sunroof and leather would be a bonus but they are not the be all and end all.

Anyway, what should I be looking for as areas for concern, I have done a bit of research and GTI's look pretty bullet proof.

Coming from a Clio Sport looking forward to the build quality upgrade although, nothing has fallen off or gone wrong, just more rattles than a kindergarten.

Any assistance would be of great help.

Sorry if it has been covered off before.

    Cheers,
    Scott

Go an 08 if you can... From what I understand, 06 and 07 cars can develop a few rattles.

I haven't experienced it first hand, just heard of it....

Not sure what price range your going for

I was in the market for an 07 and for a extra few thousand I got a new one in the current golf run out sales.

It didnt have leather or a sunroof, however, its shiny and new.

    Thanks for the replies.

Newie is just out of reach.

The limit is $37.5, has to be a 5 door and manual.

I had a 306 Gti-6 before the Clio Sport and have had enough of not having rear doors, even though a white 3 door looks the absolute ducks nuts.

Are there any specific areas of concern, ie coil packs or is that the mk4?

Would love to be able to get leather, sunroof and xenons.

I am prepared to be patient, especially as the Mk6 is released in Europe to rave reviews , then to us with potential price implications.

There will probably be a waiting list like last time, and it looks to be more expensive than the 5.

    Cheers,
    Scott

If you're not in a hurry I'd wait a while until the MK VI sales pick up. The new GTI arrives here in about September this year, I think? once it gets here the market will no doubt be flooded with used MK V GTI's, just depends on whether or not you're prepared to wait as long as that. As far as problems are concerned it's easier to just do a search on the forums, not everyone experiences the same problems and issues as each other, so it would pay you to take the time to read up on it for yourself, make a list of possible problems each model may have, and check them off against potential buys as you go.

Have a look here for starters - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ead.php?t=5200
