Hi guys,
I have a 2005 Golf MkV 2.0 TDI manual, knowing that 507.00 oil is recommended. However I red somewhere also saying for better protection, 5w-40 oil (which is Not 507.00) can be used, i.e. Penrite Enviro+ 5w40 - 505.01. Can you tell which one will be more suitable for my car? Or it makes no different since there is no particulate filter....?
Cheers

Be careful when selecting oil for your TDI engine. Don't even for second trust the oil companies when they say the 5W40 over 5W30 will better protect your engine. The viscosity of the oil has little to do with the wear protection, it's the oil additives that do the job. It's twice as valid in the PD TDIs.

Nope def the 507 oil only you need the long wear/life additives
Thanks guys! So I simply stick with 507 and dont worry about viscosity.
All 504/507 oils are 5W30 anyway.

Finally have my first oil and filter done, got a bottle of nulon euro 5w30 and it has vw 504/507 written.
Somehow this is the FIRST time I feel the car running smoother after a "service" !
