Hey all,
Just wondering if other Mk5 GTI Stage 2, or 2+ tuned cars have jerky/rough gearchanges in 'D' mode at low/partial throttle?
After I turn a corner (or even just accelerating from a standstill), say 2nd gear, and give it a little more than general acceleration throttle (say 25-50%), it will build boost and just as it's building it will change gears, e.g., 2nd to 3rd gear at 30-35km/h, 3rd to 4th at 40-45km/h. When it does this it jerks the car, like it cuts all power for a short time, feels like someone hits the brake, and then picks up again.
If you stick your boot in more (say over 50%) the car will obviously hold onto 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear for much longer, and gear changes are smoother and seem quicker too.
In 'S' mode the gearchanges are quick and smooth, but I can kind of replicate the jerk in 'M' mode if I change up early in the rev range and 25-50% throttle. I have a torque arm insert and Rev D DV that was replaced about a year ago when the stock one failed.
I always thought that it may just be that the extra power/boost available on the 2+ tune is way higher than the standard car and the DSG thinks that 'only 25%' throttle requires a smooth, slow, gearchange as there is not much boost/power at that point on a standard car.
I've never noted any other issues with the DSG since I bought it 3+yrs ago. No missed gears, etc... other than the reluctance of the DSG in D mode to drop a gear unless there's more than 50% throttle, and then it'll sometimes try to drop 2 gears, e.g., it'll chug away from 40km/h in 4th gear rather than drop to 3rd gear at low-mid throttle, but I think this is a common complaint about Mk5 and Mk6 DSG cars.
Without having the ability to drive other cars, I'm not sure if my DSG has a problem? And I would like to know more, especially since my extended warranty runs out this year.
Thanks for any advice,
Fixxxer
