Dealers being greedy I'd say
I have been told that I need a new DMF in my golf. The quote for work was $1500 in parts and $700 in labour.
VW Golf 2005 - 1.9 tdi
BKC engine
6 speed manual
Stock tune/Daily use
Does this quote sound reasonable? DMF Clutch and Flywheel kits can be bought from Darkside Developments and shipped here for about $700 - would the mechanic need any other parts to complete the work? Seems like a ok way to save $700-$800?
Thanks for your advice

This was from a VW independent in Adelaide.
Yep. They gotta get their parts from somewhere
There are also local businesses that import parts via overseas distributors. I know a guy who gets them all from GSF in the UK. Tooleys in Sydney import parts as well.
Well if he said they are OEM but not genuine VW, then your mech is at the mercy of the local importer.
It'll probably be a Sachs or LUK kit.
Maybe look into an SMF kit for it?

Get the flywheel bolts replaced! Also a good idea to also replace the 12 driveshaft bolts aswell...
Everyone I have spoken to says that SMF is a nightmare
Why?
If you buy the right clutch kit to suit, it shouldn't make any difference.
