I don't know about the VW one but my grand daughter had a problem with her Astra could not get it out of park the reason was it works off the foot brake stop light switch. But has 4. Wires the switch was jamed a bit of silicon freed it up.
hey guys, i cannot put the car into D/R from N/P unless u put foot on the brake. as soon as u put in P or N and take foot off the brake. the little icon on the dash that lights up showing a foot brake, i can also hear/feel an latch locks in the gear lever. i know it's some kind of safety feature but is there any way to disable it?
and if it's not possible to disable, is it possible to remove the centre panel, and just find/cut the wire that activate the latch altogether?

100 years of motoring without the gear lock donno why suddenly we decided we need it today. is it possible to do it thru VCDS? might be able to just cut the wire for latch but donno if it would cause other problems.
What is it stopping you from doing, by having it there?

Some models you have to have your foot on the brake to start them. Dont see the problem

Probably because of the muppets that accidently put the car into gear and plough through shops, streets, etc etc and kill people.
Theoretically you could just pop the solenoid out of the gear shift module and leave it loose. That way no faults would be thrown and you can still skip through gears. However as everyone has asked; Why???
