Things are actually happening now, parts will be in today.

I must say how impressed we are with both John Hughes Skipper Volkswagen and VW Australia. The service team at John Hughes have been exceptionally helpful, and VW have offered to pay 100% of parts and70% of labour.

Thanks also for the offers of cheaper turbos from members on here, but I don't think you can beat that. Kudos to VW

That's a pretty damn good deal.

It's sad that it surprises me, but still kudos to VW.

That is a great outcome if its outside the warranty period.

I had not heard about these sorts of issues with the Turbo diesels. Why are they chewing turbo's? I understand the deisels use the turbo in a different way to the Petrol ones, but is there something else?

Speaking to my mechanic yesterday, he was saying that the current passenger vehicle turbo's are using fuel injection systems which don't suit something about the diesel design. Also apparently deisel in Aus is high in Sulphur? what affect does this have?

Am I incorrect in saying it seems to be the 103kw engine that is doing turbo's at this stage. May be due to the fact the 125kw isn't old enough yet, but VW sure went to a LOT of trouble to boost the thermal handling capacity of the 125kw over the 103, and we all know heat / surge is the turbo's biggest enemy.

Doesn't help a lot of 103's will probably be driven by people ignorant of off boost turbo surge, basically putting the turbo at risk.

How can its occurrence or effects be reduced?

    Seems like a good deal.

But what happens in few more years when VW don't come to the party.
I think there will be a few left on the edge of a cliff with the hand break off.
Increase in VW TDI's write offs so they put the premiums up on all TDI's .

    Just my thought.

Yeah! give them a call you don't lose anything with that and like Umai says you can have a chance of 50/50

    Good luck,

It's mainly the 77kw ones that lunch the turbo.

The two I've replaced were of two different failures. One had a broken shaft, which I'm told is quite common, and the other one had a shattered impeller.

I always thought that it was the 103kw that has been killing the turbo's, I know of 3 other cars that have turbo's dieing on them and i've had 2 turbo's die on me as well.
