Coilover install... whats this?

Was thinking about chucking my coilovers in tomorrow but need to know where a certain part goes.
Its a small round piece that is currently sitting between the bump stops and the under side of the strut tops on the fronts. Just need to know what its purpose is and if it stays where it currently is before i tighten down the nylon nut on the tops?
