    Which car to sell

    I have 2 MK5 Jettas.
1 Silver 2.0 Auto, General Mrs shopping cart. Smooth quiet compliant.
1 Black 2.0T DSG, Xenons, Sunroof. Fast & Fun
Both run well and have about 110 - 113K km

I have now moved office into the CBD and I ride my ebike.
We have decided to become a single car family.

The black car has now sat since Easter, driven only on the occasional Sunday just to keep it alive.
My original plan was to sell the black car, but on those few drives recently I have had second thoughts.

So which should I sell ?
Brain says Black car goes as it is has more bits to break. Maintenance is a little more: fuel, tyres, uses a bit of oil.
Heart says Silver car goes as it has less options, is not as much fun on the occasion that I get to drive.

Neither car has really had any issues except door lock & headlining on Silver, exhaust (catalyst) on Black. Cost about $400 to fix each incident.

Usage would be for the Mrs, to work local 3km, shopping & kids sport etc. Fairly regular weekend gold coast trips 200km return.

I would keep the Black one,as it sounds to be the nicer Jetta of the two.

The reliability of the DSG (and mechatronic in particular) would be my only concern ref the TFSI - what year is it? Anything before ~mid 2008 is more of a worry long-term. There's also the other small and cheap issues with that engine, like the diverter valve.

I have a 2.0 FSI Golf with the 6-speed Aisin auto; these boxes can cause trouble over time with the valve bodies, which can be a very very expensive fix (~$5k+). Gearbox oil changes every 60k kms is an extremely good idea.

As long as you're going to stay on top of the maintenance, I'd say keep the TFSI.

    Yep heart vs brain.

When you're asking a group of car guys if you should keep the fun one or the boring one I think it's the heart looking for the answer it wants

I'm probably a bad person to ask since I had the choice between a GTI and a Cabriolet and wanted the drop top so much that I bought it even though it only came in a 118TSI. It's hard to beat Heart with Brain.... very hard.

Plan B: Sell them both and buy a newer MK6 GTI in manual so you can really enjoy those occasional drives

Sold my Mk4 GTI to buy the Turbo Jetta, well sold the GTI 6months after.
DSG is a very different experience, and the newer turbo engine delivers power so much nicer too.
Now a year on it just sits there in the garage.

Of course I want a biased opinion, I was not gonna ask on a Family Finances forum

I was wondering if anyone would say sell both buy x.
We need the big boot for all the kids crap, so no more golf. Next car will likely be a Korean suv.

The twins do look nice together though. All proceeds go toward a new swimming pool.

Sell the black one. 3km drives aren't going to do it any favours and it's painful to watch nice cars deteriorate over time with bumps/scrapes/doors getting knocked, especially if you're not even the one driving it.
    Cheap, Fast, Reliable. Choose two.
