    Brake pads - still going

At 106,000km our Mk5 still has the original front brake pads. Checked at weekend and they are between 5.3 and 4.8mm in thickness. There is a noticable ridge on the edge of the discs however. What is going to go first, the pads or the discs? The back pads were replaced at 95,000

At my recent 105,000 km service my original pads measured up as 5mm front and 5 mm rear and I have a noticeable ridge on all mine as well. Disc thickness was measured as 23.8mm front and 9.2mm rear. I don't know if there is much diffence between Mk5 and Mk6 brakes or not but I am pretty sure that the Mk6 GTD is a bit heavier than most others. As of this week (108,374 km) they are still going well and doing their job but I am saving up for an all round brake job to be done before the next scheduled service at 120,000 km.

Lip on the rotor is perfectly normal.

About 80% of the time when the pads have worn out the rotor is worn also.

Going in for the 120,000 service tomorrow. Still on the original pads. Will try to remember to get a reading and come back with an update

After getting my timing belt done at 105,000klm's and being told I need to do my brakes and
would be lucky to get another 2,500klm's out of them, I went and bought new pads.
Started at doing the rears only to find there was **** loads of meat left on both the rotor and pads.
Checked the front's and they were the same.
Ended up putting GTI fronts on it at 150,000 klm's and the originals were still going strong.
