Bluetooth or head unit /GPS for 2008 Jetta advice please

    Good Evening,

I have searched the threads and previous posts on Bluetooth handsfree and headunits for my 2008 Jetta Tdi seem to be several years old. I'd be grateful for any advice.

I would like to add the following abilities to the car
Handsfree for my car with steering wheel controls enabled (I have a red MFD if that helps)
Be able to stream music through the sound sytem from my Samsung Note 3 (Android)phone using spotify if possible or use a similar service off the phone (my phone has songs on it from spotify).
My ipod does not charge as Apple changed voltage of the new iPods compared to connector installed so if you guys recommend a head unit then one that will either charge a current model iPod or accept a usb would be nice.

I have seen ebay advertise various head units with GPS and bluetooth etc not sure if anyone can recommend a model or brand. I'd be grateful for any recommendations.

Finally if anyone can recommend an installer in Melbourne or can I do it myself or is it a job for the dealer. They have quoted $440 for bluetooth plus install

    Cheers for any advice

Just wondering if anybody has any recent experience with Android head units and eonon in particular. I've seen old posts 2 plus years stating issues re quality.

    I was thinking of this
Head Unit Android 4 4 Double DIN L CAR DVD Player GPS Stereo Touch Screen Camera | eBay

    Any others you would recommend?

    Was also considering DAB+ ability

Can't recommend any others, but i noticed the one in the link only supports steering wheel control for Japanese vehicles only. May be a deal breaker.

Probably better off getting the VW specific ones, so you don't need an adapter. Look up joying android head units or something, comes with canbus control etc. much better than a universal android one.

    Thanks fillmore and Jaackyy,

Surfing today many war re quality issues and recommend a well known brand over cheaper ones. Business Insider showed compeeling argument for Android Auto over Car play.

    Ill keep looking

I would get a bluetooth module if you have a compatible head unit if all you're after is adding a couple of bluetooth features. Which model and variant of the head unit do you have?

If you're looking at head units there's an endless number of models that fit or are customised for the VW dash. I would look into Zenec and Kenwood DNX525DAB. There's also a Blaupunkt Philadelphia 845 which is popular in some markets.

If you'd ask me I'd say get a bluetooth module + RCD510 (Delphi unit with USB Out) and most of your problems are solved (but it's not perfect)
