Antenna dilemma

Hi all has any one tried to swap a MK5 whip antenna with a shark fin and what type of problem arose from it ? as I am thinking about it and would like to know whats ahead.

I looked in to this for my GT but I think it's too hard. You need to get it to seal properly and there's common reports of ending up with poor FM reception and no AM reception afterwards.

I thought it was only AM. FM from rear demister?
Some models may have different variations on that.

I removed my standard aerial the other week as the gasket was stuffed and put in a Nissan Xtrail aerial and base just to seal the hole until I
fit a black headliner, pillar trims and sharkfin.
I don't even have the aerial hooked up and still get great reception.

Where did you get the headliner and pillar trims from?

Got it all off gumtree.
My headliner is starting to loosen up around the sunvisors, so I decided to put a black one out of a GTI in it.
Some of the pillar trims were not so good but luckily I have a GTI at work that we are turning into a track car
so I pilfered some trim bits off it.
Hardest part to find was the sunroof shade.
Ended up getting that from a member on here who is a real nice bloke (Oli).

Ah, OK. I didn't realise that the GTI came with black versions. That should be easy enough to track down. My A & B pillars are a bit tatty which is what got me thinking about it.
