    2007 Golf GT (1.4L Supercharged&Turbo Charged) - Engine Shaking at idle/Low Throttle

    Gooooooood Afternoon All,

    I was wondering if you guys could please help me out. I took my car to VW for a check and they said the issues were due to low fuel pressure and needed a throttle body clean. I said okay no worries and they did the work. I got the car back today and driving it I found that the car has still got all the issues.

    The VW dealership did say that the car is 90% there but is still misfiring at low RPM and made a comment that the throttle body still has a little bit of carbon build up and i can take it back and let them clean it further by soaking it over night, they also said to check manifold valves for carbon build up.

    However i dont want to go back if its gonne cost me more money and not sort the issue.

    The car has got a lot of kms, 240,000km on the clock.

    The issues are only at Idle in park (less when in drive) and shaking at low throttle (for example driving at 60kmph and holding that speed it shakes). At idle it randomly shakes the car and you can hear the exhaust note changes which doesnt sound right.

    What I want to know is, can that small amount of carbon build up that is left in the throttle body really cause this much of an issue?

    Find a new mechanic.

    Carbon build up usually has different symptoms, like misfires on cold start, poor fuel economy. Misfires would be logged and show up on a diagnostics scan which should be the first thing the mechanic does.

    Could be any number of things.
    A bad engine mount, bad piston rings and low compression.
    The early 1.4 engines did have issues with pistons and many failed. You might want to get a compression test.

    It may be gas mileage has significantly decreased or faulty idle air control valve may cause the engine idle to drop below the normal idling RPM. You should diagnose and inspect your car using a scanning tool which will more accurately indicate what specifically may be causing this as soon as possible.
