The refrigerent pressure sensor is known to fail.
Hi Guys,
ive done a bit of searching on a couple of forums, with nothing concrete, and Google not it's usual helpful self, so am after anyone here who has had any concrete experience with their Air Con not running cold.
My situation is that one day it was working nice and cold, next day compressor didnt engage.
Went to stealership and they quoted $4000 to fix it , so i went to an AC specialist, and they told me it's common for the variable valve in the unit to self distruct, and if it's repairable, $500-$1K, if it's not repairable, change over comp.
So, Compressor was in very good nick, valve was mildly perished, but not functioning.
Reco of my compressor, and all was good................BUT AC specialist could not get it to run cold, he described it as if the car was holding back on opeining up the valve to kick in the full amount of gas. Cant seem to get air below 19-20c. The air quality itself os quite damp/humid.
If i lock the DSG in 4th and do about 4500 RPM at 80K's the air does become marginally colder. At idle there is no cool air at all (you need to be driving at least 60K's to get anything)
Pressure is good, lines are clean (no metal fragments), there was nothing to suggest that it should be performing poorly.
I have heard of resistor packs, and other things.
Anyone got any fault finding tips, or a process i can work through to try and find a root cause?
Or , maybe someone has this exact problem , and has fixed it (here's hopeing)
Thanks helpful forum members.
