    Windscreen washer additive

I've had a look around both here and Briskoda but can't find what I'm after.

Does anybody have a list of approved windscreen washer additives that are available here in Australia?
My washer fluid low light has come on so it's time to buy something. I've seen discussions about dire (and expensive) consequences if you use the wrong stuff so I just thought I'd check if there are any after market products available before I go and buy liquid gold from the VW parts department at my local dealer.

ive never priced it up at the dealer but it cant be that expensive. They always gave me a bottle for free with every service. I ended up giving a couple of them away. It lasts ages cos you only use a cap full each time.

Apparently it isn't OTT expensive. About $20 for a litre IIRC and it dilutes down (5:1) in warm climates.

I've just been using the popular brands from K-mart (castrol / armourall / etc) nothing terrible has happened yet. Possibly more of an issue in colder temps?

My Autobarn additive (can't recall what brand) has been going great guns for a long while but is now empty. I'm keen to try anything that works, even better if it's "approved"

It smells pretty much like the metho/water blend I used to make myself, some of the others used in my other cars by dealers seem to be a bit more substantial.....

I've always used "bug off" because I'm lazy, but it does leave residue on the sides of your screen.

Is this a VAG thing to have special additives (first I've heard of it)?

Discovered a mate with a GTI has three spare bottles that he is going to give one of to me. It must be a VW thing to give the stuff away at services.

    Thanks for the replies.

BTW: As I understand things if you use the wrong stuff it can clog up the spray jets which are much finer than many other washer jet nozzles and once they get clogged they can't be cleaned and need to be replaced.
