I pulled into a servo yesterday...and suprisingly pulled up behind a mum filling up her 2009 RS wagon....and noticed her using e10 in it!!!!!!
Why???
It amazes me that people still use the wrong (cheaper) fuel with no idea how the car is tuned for 95 -98 upwards octane!
So I guess that is one second hand car to avoid if it ever lands on the used market.

E10 is actually not cheaper at all. If anything it is dearer. Per litre is may appear to be cheaper but you will use a lot more of it to do the same KM.
I have proven this on several cars, 98 wins every time for cost per km.

I agree...plus it is worth it in the long run as it is better for the engine...
No, I didnt say anything to her, as she didnt even recognise that our cars were the same until I made a comment...
So it was not worth it....

E10 averages as 94.5 RON according to this site Facts about E10 | E10 The Good Fuel
So it's only just marginally outside spec on that front. Whether it's good for the fuel system seals is another thing.

Some people are just tightwads when it comes to actually running the car (as opposed to purchasing it).
My Father bought a gen2 Liberty RX brand new. He paid significantly more for that vehicle so that he could have the more powerful 2.5L DOHC engine & he knew it required a minimum 95RON. He ran it from day1 on 92RON because "95ron was too expensive". The car chewed through fuel at an amazing rate (12L/100km) and was gutless as well. I bought it off him (stupid favour to him) and it put out 80kw on the dyno AFTER I'd tuned it, put fast oil in it & reset the ECU & changed to 98ron. Such a gas guzzling slug of a car. For the same reason, after getting 92,000km (!!!!) out of the OEM Michelins, he put some cheap crappy brand on it because the replacement Michelins were too expensive at $200 each ($800 for 90,000km of motoring sounds cheap to me).
For most people, cars are just A to B transport & they want to do it as cheap as possible & don't care about the implications somewhere down the track.

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
FWIW I had a 3L TF magna for many years. Very underrated.
On many tanks of various types of fuel on both city and country driving fuel mileage was much better on E10 than std ULP. Engine responsiveness was also better.
Fuel consumption was a bit less on PULP than E10 – and about paid for the extra cost of the PULP.
Of course depends on the car. If someone puts anything but PULP in our focus it is immediately obvious (and I am looking to top up with the good stuff ASAP….).
I'll just keep filling up the car at the truck stop.

I mistakenly put a small amount of Diesel in a 2 stroke motorcycle once, in a very hung over state. It lasted about 5 km before the piston shattered.

i was desperate the other day and the only servo around was a 7-11. even though i put "98" octane in my car ran like crap, would cough and splutter at anything over 15psi. i now cry a little inside everytime i see a nice car filling up at a 7-11
