Wheels. 19 inch vs 18 inch

I have 18s on my Octavia wagon. I could have got 19s from new, indeed they were on the car at the dealers, but I thought the ride was very harsh with 19s. Now I am looking at some new wheels (VMR V701) in 19 inch and weighing up beauty vs utility. Bit like considering a new girlfriend! Ha ha.

What are opinions on 19s vs 18s? Mine is a work vehicle, will do about 25,000 km a year, mix of suburban and interstate.

What's the weight difference including tyres? Heavy rims/tyres on the front will give you more axle tramping.

i'm just checking if this is in relation to the tyre question or the potential girlfriend question?

on a serious note i changed from 18's to 19's and noticed a massive difference in ride comfort. that said it's probably ok for 80% of the time so up to you if you are prepared to suffer a bit over poor road surfaces...

19s for looks (subjectively), 18s for ride, performance, price, ie everything else.

    Fully agree!
Also choice and price of tyres
The 225/40/18 is a very common size where as 225/35/19 has less options and higher prices
Then there is the higher risk of pot holes hitting your rim as a 35 profile is getting very skinny

    Stick with 18s

get either 7.5" or 8" but get a slightly more aggressive offset

    Buy something around 8kg.

I have the 19" on mine, and while it looks good, I hit a fairly shallow pothole a couple of weeks after delivery and damaged two tyres. I think the 18" with the higher profile would've had a bit more compliance.

If you run 19s then you have to increase pressures to compensate for the lack of free volume within the tyre carcass.

Yep, I'm running 38F 37R. The dealer always drops it down to 34/33 when it goes in for anything.. too low for 19's IMO.

i'd be running at 42F/38R in a 225/35r19 with just 1 or 2 people on board. Your dealer is insane.

just out of interest, what does it say inside the fuel flap? I'll assume 19" isn't listed but what about for 225/40r18?
