    What's in the welcome pack?

Somebody from Skoda rang me today to confirm my address as they want to send me a Welcome Pack.

    Any idea what's in it?

The guy asked me to confirm my number plate & I told him I hadn't even seen the car yet & don't expect to until Saturday week. Weird - I'm sure the number he started mumbling was my initials.

Anyway, there was silence on the other end of the phone & I can tell I've made his questions all a bit pointless

Maybe it is a dealer thing ? I've had mine for nearly a month and haven't heard of anything like it so far.

Nope, he said he was from Skoda Australia.

Said that he had a list of every Skoda purchaser from June. He asked me why I chose Skoda and obviously had a list of questions and was using a really crappy echoing headset so that he could type. unfortunately I couldn't answer any because I didn't have the car yet.

I'll keep you informed when it comes - if it's any good you might want to ring them and ask for your own welcome pack

My wife took the call a week or so ago, she said the guy on the other end was extremely underwhelming to deal with - she had to provide the excitement for both of them! (then she got the welcome pack)

    It consists of...

    Wait for it...

A letter, and a plastic card along with the terms and conditions for the roadside assist thingy. The dealers bottles of wine were a much more appreciated welcome pack!

    That's him!

He sounded like a really shy grad who has got his first job in marketing.

He sounded like me at the same age - my employer had to send me on a Telephone Techniques course to pull me out of my shell.

Oh ! Sorry, it appears I have received my "welcome pack" then. I thought it must have been something a bit more impressive.

But I am deeply impressed with the car (RS) itself. The more I drive it the more I like it, particularly the mid-range shove in the back when you boot it.

I was surprised how "tolerant" the ESP is, it allows way more latitude and fun then the traction control in my transporter, which is only too ready to rapp you over the knuckles with a ruler and take away all engine power for a couple of seconds anytime you look like you might be having too much fun.

This "welcome Pack" is really stupid marketing speak as it raises expectations of the customer... only to have this bubble burst upon realising that it's only the roadside assist card that was already the default part of the sale. This should really have been handed over when the car is picked up.

For goodness sake, even a matchbox version of a Skoda Octavia or Roomster would have atleast matched any heightened expectation. I can atleast give this to my kids.

Not that anyone is really looking for any freebie... just don't use stupid marketing speak to raise expectations. Hey Skoda Oz Marketing Dept, cop this

Maybe they should call it an Information Pack.

Welcome Pack certainly implies something "special" like when you go to a fancy hotel & they leave you a bowl of fruit or a bottle of booze.
